Water transport in protoplanetary disks and the hydrogen isotopic composition of chondrites. ![]() Structure and transport in the solar nebula from constraints on deuterium enrichment and giant planets formation. We propose that the isotopic composition of inner Solar System water was established during the collapse of the protosolar cloud core owing to a massive admixture of interstellar water. Hydrogen isotopes also correlate with oxygen and nitrogen isotopes, indicating that planetary reservoirs of volatile elements formed within the first 2 × 10 5 years of the Solar System, during the main CAI formation epoch. Minerals rich in oxidised iron formed before the capture of the fragments record the existence of a nebular gas reservoir with an oxygen fugacity substantially above the solar value and a D/H ratio within 20% of that of the Earth’s oceans. Primary minerals have extremely low D/H ratios, with δD values down to −850‰, recording the trapping of nebular hydrogen. We report the hydrogen isotopic composition of nominally anhydrous minerals from CAI fragments trapped in a once-melted host CAI. Here we use the isotopic composition of hydrogen in calcium–aluminium-rich inclusions (CAIs) from primitive meteorites, the oldest Solar System rocks, to establish the hydrogen isotopic composition of water at the onset of Solar System formation. The initial isotopic composition of water in the Solar System is of paramount importance to understanding the origin of water on planetary bodies but remains unknown, despite numerous studies 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

Pontoon boat deck rails12/9/2023 ![]() They’re more expensive than standard cleats but make for a cleaner look and a cleaner gunwale. Pull-up and pop-up cleats both stow flush with the deck and can be pulled up or popped up when needed. These are common on larger vessels and docks. Standard boat cleats are fixed in position and solid. They come in many different sizes depending on the size of your boat.Ĭleats all have the same general shape but can have slightly different designs. Stainless is the most desirable for heavy-duty applications, while plastic is useful for light-duty applications Gas Shocks/StrutsĬleats are one of the most prominent pieces of marine deck hardware on a boat. Like latches, hinges come in a few different materials. This can be desirable when you don’t want hatches slamming closed. A friction hinge offers resistance towards the pivoting action, holding hatches open or slowing their close. The “friction hinge,” comes in every style of hinge previously listed. Some of these are built as replacements for popular production boats, while others are meant for custom build applications. There are also many types of specialty hinges. This is most popular in the interior of a boat and is typically a lighter-duty application, like cabinetry. Unlike butt hinges, which are short and used in sets, piano hinges range from six inches to six feet and are used one at a time.įor more of a streamlined and clean appearance, concealed hinges are not visible at all from the outside of the closed cabinet or door. These hinges are typically short and are used in sets of two or more. The most common of the hinge types on boats is the butt hinge. Hinges are another important category within marine hardware. This is most often used for the push button latches, but some cam and flush mount latches have locking capabilities as well. ![]() Another thing to consider is whether or not your latch needs to be locking or not. ![]() There are many types of specialty latches designed for one specific function as well. Draw latches are used for hatches mounted on flush surfaces. Barrel bolts are used to secure swinging doors. Push button latches are lighter duty, typically used for electronic box lids and glove boxes. This is advantageous when a hatch requires multiple latches. Cam latches are similar to flush latches, but unlike flush latches, they will not spring closed. Flush latches, also known as slam latches are perfect for access hatches, livewell hatches, and drawers. Heavy-duty latches should be stainless steel, while lighter-duty push-button latches can be plastic.Įach style of latch is designed for a specific function. Transporter protein turnover rate12/9/2023 ![]() Because ammonia is toxic, the liver transforms it into urea, which is then transported to the kidney and excreted in the urine. Recall that amino acids contain nitrogen, so further catabolism of amino acids releases nitrogen-containing ammonia. As with other macronutrients, the liver is the checkpoint for amino acid distribution and any further breakdown of amino acids, which is very minimal. Once the amino acids are in the blood, they are transported to the liver. This movement of individual amino acids requires special transport proteins and the cellular energy molecule, adenosine triphosphate (ATP). In the lower parts of the small intestine, the amino acids are transported from the intestinal lumen through the intestinal cells to the blood. The goal of the digestive process is to break the protein into dipeptides and amino acids for absorption. The muscle contractions of the small intestine mix and propel the digested proteins to the absorption sites. The cells that line the small intestine release additional enzymes that finally break apart the smaller protein fragments into the individual amino acids. The two major pancreatic enzymes that digest proteins are chymotrypsin and trypsin. The pancreas secretes digestive juice that contains more enzymes that further break down the protein fragments. The stomach empties the chyme containing the broken down egg pieces into the small intestine, where the majority of protein digestion occurs. Food remains in the stomach longer, making you feel full longer. Eating a high-protein meal increases the amount of time required to sufficiently break down the meal in the stomach. Protein digestion in the stomach takes a longer time than carbohydrate digestion, but a shorter time than fat digestion. The powerful mechanical stomach contractions churn the partially digested protein into a more uniform mixture called chyme. Egg proteins are large globular molecules and their chemical breakdown requires time and mixing. ![]() Pepsin, which is secreted by the cells that line the stomach, dismantles the protein chains into smaller and smaller fragments. The acidity of the stomach facilitates the unfolding of the proteins that still retain part of their three-dimensional structure after cooking and helps break down the protein aggregates formed during cooking. The stomach releases gastric juices containing hydrochloric acid and the enzyme, pepsin, which initiate the breakdown of the protein. The mashed egg pieces enter the stomach through the esophageal sphincter. The salivary glands provide some saliva to aid swallowing and the passage of the partially mashed egg through the esophagus. The teeth begin the mechanical breakdown of the large egg pieces into smaller pieces that can be swallowed. Unless you are eating it raw, the first step in egg digestion (or any other protein food) involves chewing.

Slip transmission fix12/8/2023 ![]() Yes, CVT Transmissions can be repaired, but the most effective way to avoid having to repair them is to make sure that you replace the fluid at Nissan’s (or your own manufacturers) recommended Intervals and avoid putting unapproved load or stress on your CVT vehicle (towing or trailering). For example, Nissan will recommend that you change the fluid every 25,000 miles. The time interval that you can drive between fluid changes will depend on your vehicle. You can probably tell by now, the most important maintenance for your CVT transmission is the upkeep on the fluids. The transmissions are manufactured by Aisin, a automotive parts manufacturer that is part of the Toyota Group of companies. The Toyota K CVT transmission is a series of continuously variable transmissions (CVT) found in many Toyota automobiles. If you have a CVT transmission the service intervals can range from 30,000 to 100,000 based on the manufacturer. Newer model vehicle transmission service and/or flushes are due on average about every 50,000 miles while older models are due about every 30,000 miles. How often does a CVT transmission need to be serviced? The CVTs won’t last nearly as long as the standard automatic transmissions, and it’s not surprising if they fail to run for more than 100K miles or less. ![]() Replacing a CVT transmission costs roughly between $3,000 and $5,000 or higher. Muddy Fluid – Muddy fluid or debris filled fluid could be a symptom of bad CVT transmission.Slipping Gears – a very common symptom of a bad CVT transmission is that the transmission is slipping gears.Unusual Noises – There may be noise coming from the CVT transmission.Certain models like the Toyota Prius commonly last well over 300,000 miles. ![]() The typical CVT has a life expectancy of at least 100,000 miles. How long will a CVT transmission last?ĬVT transmissions last just as long as a traditional automatic transmission and are designed to last the full life of the vehicle. These include overheating, slipping, jerking, shuddering, and a sudden loss of acceleration. Search the website and you’ll find a number of common issues with CVTs.
